We are delighted to welcome Great Pottery Throwdown Winner 2024 Donna Bloye to run our two-day Image Transfer on Clay Masterclass.

Aims of the course:

The aim of the course is to learn how to combine mono-printing and screen-printing techniques with clay. We will focus on different methods of transferring images on to the clay surface and understand ways of developing these into small scale production work.

Using the methods taught during the workshop an emphasis will be placed on decoration becoming an intrinsic part of the creative and making process rather than something that is considered only after a piece has been bisque fired. By the end of the course each participant will have developed an understanding of how to:

  • Mix screen printing ‘inks’ using underglazes

  • Create coloured slips for transferring images using the mono-printing technique,

  • Create different types of screens for printing,

  • Create a mono-print on clay

  • Layer imagery using screen printing techniques.

We will work with both stoneware clay and Flax paper porcelain to create hand-built pieces that are decorated prior to firing.

This is a small group, intensive making and refining course allowing for plenty of tutor attention.

N.B. At the end of the course it will be possible to take your work home as greenware (charged for by weight) or to leave a piece at Vessel Ceramics to be biscuit fired to be collected later.

ABOUT DONNA:

My name is Donna Bloye; most will know me only as Donna, winner of The Great Pottery Throw Down 2024.

I received a BA Hons in Ceramics from the University of the West of England in 2001 and after several years working as a Secondary Art teacher, I made the decision to return to my first passion; clay. In 2023 I opened Oto Pottery Studio in Bangor, Northern Ireland and now work full time as a Ceramic artist. Decoration has always been a focus of my work, and I enjoy combining my love of painting and clay. More recently, as I develop work for an upcoming exhibition, I have been merging printing techniques and collage with clay to create vessels that are awash with colour, pattern and photographic imagery. Printing on clay has become an obsession of mine and I am excited to share my techniques with you.
