Summer Studio Round-Up

Hello!

I hope you’re well and enjoying the Summer despite the inconsistent UK weather (if that’s where you are).

Here’s a round up of what’s been going on in the studio recently:

‘Moretonhampstead Secret Sheds’ was a great success with lots of visitors enjoying the demonstrations and ambience in the studio and some booking up to come and try for themselves.

STUDIO NEWS

We have had some lovely times in the studio with birthday treats and family groups.

Thank you Hannah, Katie and daughter Rosie who had never thrown before! I loved having you here.

I’ve finally managed to set the wedging table at the perfect height and put up more shelves.

We had a kiln disaster where much of the glazed work was damaged. We’re still trying to get to the bottom of it and looking at it as a learning opportunity despite the disappointment!

The good news is that Godric the big kiln should now function. We just need to make enough work to fill it before testing it.

Devon Open Studios is the next major event on the studio calendar running from Saturday 9th September until Sunday 24th. The guide brochure to all the artists/venues taking place are available in the studio now. Our normal opening times will apply and classes & workshops will carry on as usual.

Up and Coming…

A new set of classes are booking-up for the new term in September (see below) so don’t leave it too late if you’d like to join one. I’m really looking forward to them.

I’m delighted to announce two new pre-Christmas workshops:

• Porcelain Hanging Christmas Decorations Workshop at the end of October (in time for glazing and firing to be completed before Christmas)

• Christmas Botanical Prints Stationery with the lovely Allie Sylvester (who’s work and cards are available in the gallery) on 18th November

  Both would be great Christmas Gifts and can be paid for with Gift Vouchers

For those of you who are looking for high quality ceramics training in the SW, I’ve been busy on the admin-side arranging a programme of amazing Masterclasses for next year. They are all with incredibly talented tutors . So far, I’m excited to announce that the following are confirmed:

IN THE GALLERY:

Our makers are beautifying the gallery and we have some gorgeous new work from Abigail North to share with you. These are made from wheel-thrown stoneware with a transparent internal glaze and stripes of coloured slip on the outside.

Everyone is ‘feeling the pinch’ but Gift Vouchers and carefully crafted handmade work are still winners for special gifts.
